Dorothy Tillman on Reparations
Who she is: Alderman, city of Chicago
Her position: In favor
Details:
Dorothy Tillman is one of the most active and powerful of all reparations
activists. Having served as a Chicago alerman since 1985, she has passed or
endorsed a number of resolutions and made many public speeches in favor of
slavery reparations. Her most recent action was to author a bill, passed
unanimously, to force companies in Chicago who deal with the city to
disclose any past ties to slavery they might have had.
This year, Dorothy faces three
primary opponents to her re-election bid.
Quotes:
- "We'll go to banquet after banquet after banquet, and we won't be
served by our people. We shouldn't eat where we can't work. It's not
personal against anybody, I'm just pro my people."
- Newsmax.com, after Tillman request for more black waiters caused two white waiters to be sent home for the day.
