Full Pledge Commments from Toni Guarino
| My family came here in 1910. We were poor Italian immigrants who were discriminated against from the moment we set foot on America's shore. We certainly never owned slaves; we were practically slaves ourselves. Even if my ancestors had owned slaves, why would I pay for their sins? If my grandfather robbed a bank but was never brought to justice, should I be thrown in jail? No; it was not my sin. Reparations for slavery would be wrong in every way, making those who are not responsible give their hard-earned money to those who don't deserve it. The slavery that ended 150 years ago affects no one today, and statistics prove it. I WON'T PAY! |
